Best Cannabis for Joints

The greatest joints start with the best cannabis. You’ll first need to grind, cut, or break up the cannabis flower. The perfect tool for this is, of course, a grinder, but scissors will also suffice.
If you have no tools, simply use your fingertips to break up the buds on your rolling tray. For rolling joints that smoke smoothly, cannabis flowers should be broken up into a fine texture, but not too fine like powder.
Be sure to remove any tiny stems or seeds (the tiniest little stem can puncture the joint paper, ruining the airflow). Don’t smoke the seeds either—they taste and smell pretty bad. If you find seeds in your cannabis, you can save them to grow or eat later.

Best Joint Rolling Papers

Everyone has a preferred brand of rolling paper. There are countless brands out there, such as RAW and JOB. Papers are available in different widths, textures, and sizes. The smaller the paper, the harder it is to roll the joint, so keep that in mind.
We recommend beginners start with a larger paper to make it a bit easier, but if you’re up for the challenge, go for something thinner.
The best rolling paper is ultimately the one that you enjoy the most and find easiest to use.
Generally, the lower the ratio of paper to cannabis in your joint, the better it will taste. Continue reading to learn how to roll joints with the least amount of paper possible.

How To Roll A Joint Step-by-Step

The Set-Up

First and foremost, set up your joint rolling environment. Adjust the lighting so that you can see what you’re doing and turn on some tunes or a podcast.
Next, gather your tools and supplies. Pick your strain and break it up on the tray. Be sure to take a moment to enjoy the aroma and aesthetic of the cannabis as you work with it.

The Old School Roll

Here you’ll need to decide if you want to use a filter or not. If you don’t have a legit filter, you may create one out of cardboard or similar materials.
Rotate the rolling paper so the glue is at the top, facing you, and place your filter on one end (usually on the left for right-handed people and vice versa). It’s helpful to bend or fold the paper a bit to create a little pocket for the flower.
Insert your flower into the paper, making sure it is more or less evenly spread. To create a cone shape, fan it out with less flower towards the filter and more at the open end.
Now, here’s the tricky part. Fold the paper over the flower and gently use the paper to roll the flower back and forth, creating a little tube. This makes the flower a bit tighter and forms it correctly.
Folding the joint is a very, very important step. It can’t be too tight, or it won’t hit. It can’t be too loose, or it’ll fall apart.
Take your time and once you’ve created a nice little tube, hold it tight as you begin to roll upwards toward the glue. Once you’ve got a good roll in, pause and readjust your ends a bit, maybe straighten it out and tighten it up some.
You can use a poker tool here to push the cannabis down from the open end, but don’t pack it too tight or it won’t pull well. Try not to lose the tight roll and get ready to finish up this perfect joint.
Now it’s time to lick it and stick it! Put a touch of saliva onto the glue, then keep rolling upwards and folding over the top of the paper until it sticks together.

The French Roll

Before we get into this roll, here’s a pro tip you can use to reduce how much paper you have in your joints. Instead of orienting the glue at the top of the paper, face the glue away from you and orient it to the bottom.
Then, when you fold the paper to put the cannabis in, the glue should face you. Use your thumbs to form the joint by rolling it in between your fingers.
Without licking, fold the glue-side facing you gently inward so that it connects with the inside of the paper. Tighten up the joint with your fingers and roll it just a bit.
The most important part of this technique is achieving an adequate connection with the glue side on the inside of the paper. When you feel your joint is tight, lick the paper on the outside where the glue-side is located.
The moisture bleeds through onto the glue. Use your breath or a lighter to dry out the moisture and glue, but try not to set your joint on fire just yet.
When it’s dry, gently tear off any excess paper as you’ll have one thin layer of rolling paper tightly wrapped around your cannabis.
Tighten up the ends and straighten up the seal and you’re good to go; congratulations!
